What it is: Honeysuckle flower, known in Chinese as jinyinhua, is a traditional herbal floral material grown in Shandong and Henan provinces. The buds open white and turn gold, giving the flower its Chinese name, which means gold and silver flower. It has a slender shape and a light, clean fragrance.
How to use and application scenes: Dried honeysuckle buds are commonly used to make floral tea, often blended with chrysanthemum or goji berry for daily drinking. The gentle scent also makes it a popular filling for traditional sachets and pillows, bringing a natural touch to home spaces.
Craft: Buds are typically picked in the early morning before they open, then air-dried or low-temperature dried to preserve their shape and fragrance. Each batch is sorted by hand to remove stems and impurities, ensuring clean, uniform material.
Cultural meaning: In Chinese herbal tradition, honeysuckle symbolizes resilience and quiet elegance. Its vines survive winter, earning the name rendong, or winter-enduring. As an everyday herb, it reflects a way of living that follows nature and finds wellbeing in plants.

Honeysuckle is picked in the early morning when buds are still closed, preserving their shape and fragrance. After harvest, the buds are spread out promptly to avoid heat buildup. Drying is done by natural sun-drying or low-temperature drying, which keeps the buds pale and the scent light. Finally, workers sort by hand to remove stems and impurities, grading by bud size for clean, uniform material.
