What it is: Rosemary is a woody evergreen herb native to the Mediterranean, now grown in the highlands of Yunnan, China. Its needle-like leaves carry a clean, resinous scent of pine and green wood. How to use & scenes: In the kitchen, it seasons roasted meats, potatoes, and olive oil. At home, sprigs are bundled for sachets or steeped as a fragrant tea. Craft: Farmers harvest stems by hand, then shade-dry them slowly to protect the volatile oils. The dried needles keep their shape and scent for months when stored away from heat and light. Cultural meaning: Rosemary has long symbolized remembrance and loyalty. In Mediterranean and European folk traditions, it was carried at weddings and placed in homes for protection. Today it connects cooks and crafters to that quiet heritage of everyday ritual.

Yunnan rosemary is mainly harvested by hand. Farmers cut mature stems on clear mornings to avoid heat loss of aroma. The stems are spread in a shaded, ventilated area to dry naturally, without direct sun or artificial heat, preserving the volatile oils in the needles. After drying, coarse stalks are removed, needles are sorted by grade, and packed. No artificial fragrance or color is added.
Rosemary has long symbolized remembrance and loyalty in Western tradition. Ancient Greek students wore it to aid memory, and European brides often carried sprigs at weddings. Folk custom also placed it in homes for protection and peace. After arriving in Yunnan, China, it joined local herb farming, linking Mediterranean tradition with highland terroir as an everyday plant.
Keep it in an airtight container away from heat, light, and moisture. Whole needles hold their aroma longer than crushed ones. Properly stored, it stays fragrant for about 6 to 12 months.
