What it is: Xinyi (magnolia bud) is the dried flower bud of Magnolia species such as Yulan magnolia, mainly grown in Henan and Hubei provinces. Known as 'wood pen flower' for its brush-tip shape, it has been used in Chinese herbal practice since the Qin and Han dynasties.

How to use & scenes: Steep in hot water for a fragrant herbal tea, add to sachets and sleep pillows, or use in steam inhalation. Its warm, resinous aroma suits home wellness, tea corners, and craft workshops.

Craft: Buds are gathered in late winter before opening, cleaned of stems, then shade-dried or dried at low temperature to preserve the aromatic oils. The process favors whole buds and a strong natural scent.

Cultural meaning: Xinyi reflects the Chinese tradition of living with plants and the long history of herbal knowledge. It is a gentle botanical material for aromatherapy, handmade goods, and cultural exploration.
