A 1,360-year-old forging technique, still kept by hand
Our sterling silver pieces are made in family-run silver ateliers in Guangdong — the same region and the same tradition where a rare court forging method has been kept alive since the Tang dynasty. We document it here because it is the standard we hold our makers to.
- · Shougong — the finishing technique of imperial metal-forging, recorded 1,360 years ago in the Tang Code among the fourteen imperial gold-and-silver crafts.
- · The Tang Code set four years of study for the basics alone — the longest and hardest of the era's metal crafts.
- · His work carries a World Crafts Council Asia-Pacific Award of Excellence (2018), 60+ national craft awards and 80+ design patents.
Wei Dong is Vivfora's Chief Craft Advisor. He sets and reviews the craftsmanship standard behind every piece we sell — our sterling silver jewellery is made by partner ateliers working in the same silver-forging tradition, to the standard he supervises. Our master-collection teapots are his own one-of-a-kind work.
We publish the technique and the credentials so you can judge the standard for yourself.
